ABOUT US

Our Mission

To cure and care by assisting organizations that serve the underprivileged and provide medical support to the needy.

Our History

Spreading the light of happiness

It only takes a spark to make a fire and warm all those around it. Similarly, a small spark to reach out to the needy lit up in the hearts of a few ladies led by Mrs. Suryakumari Ramakrishna, when they saw a hapless woman and child on the street. They called this spark Prayas and it ignited the beginning of a humble endeavour in 1996.

‘Prayas’ in Sanskrit means ‘effort’ or ‘endeavour’

In the early days, Prayas offered medical services for the underprivileged community in Virugambakkam by renting a small marriage hall.

Post Mrs.Suryakumari Ramakrishna’s tenure as president, Prayas Trust was led by Mrs.Chitra Rangaswami who was instrumental in instituting scholarships for underprivileged children. She championed for quality education for all.

Over the years, Prayas turned into a ray of hope for a large number of underprivileged people. Today, the spirit of Prayas is constantly driven by the dedicated and relentless efforts of its 300+ members, whose mission is spreading the light of happiness and bringing smiles.

Prayas Trust formed by the spouses of L&T Construction’s employees and female employees is a social welfare non-profit organisation, encouraged and financially assisted by the management of L&T. Prayas, the force behind L&T’s CSR efforts, integrates the L&T family all over india in joining hands and serving the community.

Besides healthcare, Prayas is also involved in education and social upliftment of the underprivileged community with its sustained efforts through tailor-made programs.

With the continued encouragement, guidance and financial assistance of the management of L&T and ECC, PRAYAS today integrates the L&T family all over India in joining hands in the service to community

Most organizations and individuals who work among the poor are often constrained by inadequate funds to carry on with their service. Prayas extends a helping hand to such organizations and individuals by assessing their needs and meeting at least some of their basic necessities.

Prayas affirms its commitment by active involvement through various CSR activities and is a part of the CSR face of L&T!
